Where Are You Now? - Mr. Costanzo

Babylon alumni, Mr. Bill Costanzo, attended kindergarten at Babylon memorial grade school and attended junior high and high school at BHS. Throughout his time here, he partook in many shop classes, and sports such as wrestling, football, and baseball. Originally Mr. Costanzo’s interest in the ocean had influenced him to pursue a career in marine sciences, but life had different plans. Mr. Costanzo’s interests in hands-on work propelled him to over forty years in IT telecom and construction work as well as a career as a volunteer fireman and later a NYS firefighter.
Mr. Costanzo has lived in Babylon his whole life, and his three children also attended school here. “I’ve been very tied to the community for a very long time, so it’s just a very hometown feeling, everything about Babylon. Everything about the schools is very near and dear to my heart,” explained Costanzo in a recent interview. Mr. Costanzo continued to explain that he feels the community in Babylon really takes care of you when you need it and how connected he feels with the town and schools. Mr. Costanzo credits Mr. Rowe, his high school English teacher, for instilling in him his interest in reading. He also emphasized his love for science whilst attending Babylon.
Mr. Costanzo shared a piece of advice he would give current students at Babylon: “Don’t rush to become an adult,” he stated. “The older you get, you look back at your younger years and say ‘Wow, I wish I had done this, or I wish I had done that, or I wish I hadn’t done this or hadn’t done that,’ so just don’t rush it because you’ll never have these days again,” he continues. One memorable experience that Mr. Costanzo shared with me was when he built a dining room table
for his sister in shop class. He also expressed gratitude that most of his close friends are from his years at Babylon.
Mr. Costanzo’s time here at Babylon was one to remember. He emphasized how much he loved the sense of community, and how much fun he had here. He really did make the most of these beautiful schools and community.
